Brooge to Power Green Ammonia Project in UAE with 650 MW of Solar

Brooge Renewable Energy (BRE) is planning to build a solar PV park of up to 650 MW in Abu Dhabi to power its planned green ammonia plant in the emirate.

The company has signed a partnership with Siemens Energy AG which will serve as a technical partner on the project, Brooge said last month.

The German company will provide engineering, design procurement, and construction solutions for the solar plant including grid connection. The deal includes also operation and maintenance services.

The 2 companies now plan to work together to obtain the necessary project approvals from governmental agencies as a 1st step of the project.

The green electricity produced by the solar park will be supplied to Phase 1 of BRE’s planned green ammonia project in Kizad, Abu Dhabi. The plan was unveiled in June 2022 when BRE was established as a subsidiary of Brooge Energy.

Once operational, the facility is expected to produce up to 300,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually. BRE has signed a preliminary land lease agreement for a 150,000 square metres plot which has access to the sea and allows for the export of the output.

Meanwhile, BRE hired thyssenkrupp Uhde to conduct the technical study of the project in order to provide estimates for capital and operating expenditures, EPC timeline, and some process and layout documents.
